We are committed to offering the most advanced tools to support your health and wellness. We are pleased to introduce the Galleri® test, a cutting-edge blood test that screens for a signal shared across more than 50 types of cancer—many of which have no recommended screening tests today.
Cancer often hides, with symptoms not appearing until later stages. The earlier that cancer is diagnosed, the greater the chance of successful treatment and survival. Today, doctors test individually for 5 specific cancers — colorectal, lung (for those at risk), breast, cervical and prostate.
While these single-cancer screenings play an important role in detecting 5 specific cancers today, nearly 70% of cancers have no recommended screening tests.
Galleri is a screening tool, not a diagnostic test. It is designed to be used in addition to, not instead of, standard screenings like mammograms, Pap smears or colonoscopies. With a simple blood draw, the Galleri test can help detect certain cancers in their earliest stages—when they are most treatable.
The Galleri test is recommended for individuals age 50 and older, or for those with a genetic mutation or personal / family history that may put them at increased risk of cancer. Age is the biggest risk factor for cancer. Adults over 50 are 13 times more likely to have cancer, compared to people under age 50. Cancer risk increases for everyone as we age. I would encourage everyone at increased risk to get screened since early detection leads to significantly improved outcomes.
Because this is a newer technology, most insurance plans do not yet cover the cost. The standard price is $949, but Dohr, Coll & Gadson Obstetrics, Gynecologic Surgery and Medical Spa is offering patients access to the test for a discounted rate of $749, which is the direct lab fee. The test may be eligible for reimbursement through HSA or FSA accounts, and the manufacturer, GRAIL, offers interest-free payment plans. Ask about Galleri when scheduling your annual visit.
